Damselflies are like small dragonflies. Young ones eat small plankton and other small insects. As they get bigger they will eat bigger things. They grow to about 21/2 cm. They live in pools of semi-stagnant water. They live in Oklahoma north to Canada. Damselflies are cool. (

The egg cases are still visible around these just hatched damselflies.

Mallards are found on almost every body of water in the United States. They are ancestors of the domesticated white ducks. The Mirror Lake Mallards seem to all be hatched at the same time and would readily beg for food. They have been observed eating blueberries.

This crayfish is very interesting. Not counting its antenna it ranges from 10-150mm. It lives in freshwater rivers, streams, brooks, ponds, lakes and swampy areas. Animal food is an important part of the food of crayfish. Its enemies include wading birds, frogs, turtles, small mouth bass, snakes and raccoons. Between dusk and dawn they will come out to feed.They live under rocks or other debris.(Ashley and Kassandra)

Two Eastern Painted turtles were encountered on Mirror Lake. They generally grow to about 20 cm long and will live many years as do many species of turtles. The one in the picture is about as big as they get. They will eat anything but most likely exist in Mirror Lake on plants.

Elliptio are fresh water clams. They are 30 to 250 mm in length. Elliptio can live from one to ten years. Elliptio can only live in fresh water. Elliptio filter feed, eat plankton and really anything that comes into its mouth. Muskrats are animals that eat Elliptio. (Alejx, Aaron)
