In this photo, Don Mower is weighing a bucket of the
ponding basin material which was scooped up from the tarp as illustrated
in the previous photo. A subsample is removed from this bucket for return
to the lab for drying. The plastic bags visible in the background are samples
collected from buckets weighed previously. This material is archived
for future research purposes such as chemical analysis and determination
of the organic and inorganic fractions. A paper was published detailing
the amounts and fractions of this material in 1970. (Bormann
et al.).
