Once all the mineral soil is removed, the remaining block
of soil organic horizon is measured. Eight measurements are taken
for the depth of the entire block, two on each side of the quadrangular
block. Then eight measurements are taken for just the depth of the
Oie. Depth of Oa is determined by subtracting Oie depth from the
total.
