Next we saw through the Oie layer around the edge of
the template with a small hand saw. This prevents leaves and twigs
from being pulled out from beneath the template as we proceed. Then,
with our fingers, we scrape away the Oie surrounding the template.
This particular sample is on a rock near the surface, as evidenced by the
nail that could not be pushed all the way down.
